About

Hello there! (A little nod to my fellow nerds)

I’m Alicia.

I’ve taken up this blog again to capture my food story. I love cooking and I love food, but I’ve learnt over the last couple years that my relationship with food and cooking ebbs and flows due to different seasons of life and that’s okay.

I used to love making every single thing from scratch, but motherhood showed me the beauty of quick hacks and store bought miracles. And I only recently have been able to be okay with this without feeling guilty.

I also recently delved into the world of vegetarianism and veganism. During a time when food was extremely challenging and uninspiring, these foods relit the passion I had for food. I have had to be particularly creative because my husband is a meat loving Albertan at heart and with two little girls under two I definitely don’t have the time or energy to make 2 meals.

I want this space to be an authentic and messy place to capture the highs and lows, the lessons and successes of my food story. This is not a highlight reel or a perfectly posed recipe blog. I have about 2 minutes to eat before I’m interrupted by little hands and the photos you see are captured within that time crunch with a baby on my hip.

This blog is like the flour covered, vanilla dripped, pen scratched on cookbooks that capture those family recipes and memories.  This blog is like the recipes you squeeze out of your kitchen with a tiny bit of counter space and a sink overflowing with dishes. This blog is tiny hands pulling at your legs.

This is my food story, so let’s begin…

Once upon a messy kitchen….
